    Mehr über Fassbinder

    By Dorothea Holloway | May 6, 2015

Berlin Alexanderplatz – On Main Street America. Rainer Werner Fassbinders’s Last Great Triumph in the American Press

When Rainer Werner Fassbinder’s 13-part tv-production, Berlin Alexanderplatz (1980), premiered at the Venice festival, the public stood in line each day to catch one episode after another. The same approach was used a few weeks later at the 2nd Filmfest of Filmmakers in Düsseldorf. Then, in December 1980, the series was aired at regular intervals on the First Channel (ARD) in West Germany. The critical reaction was mixed. Now, three years later, Berlin Alexanderplatz has arrived in the United States for a kind of farewell bow by the late Rainer Werner Fassbinder – whose premature death in June 1982 ended one the most extraordinary careers in world cinema.
