    MDM Training Initiatives

    By Ron Holloway | December 31, 2008

Since its founding, the MDM Leipzig has advocated an advanced media-specific training program with an international orientation. Consideration is given particularly to programs anchored in Middle Germany that would be supported with funds from the MEDIA Program of the European Union, as well as to facilitate access to training initiatives by regional representative. EAVE (European Audiovisual Entrepreneur) (www.eave.org) is viewed here as the leading advanced training program for European coproductions. Over the past years EAVE has developed a combination of producer training, project development, and network configuration. The aim of the Program is the modernization and improvement of methods for production and co production, as well as the motivation to work together.

The Discovery Campus Masterschool (DCM) is a European Master Class for the project development of documentary film for the international public. It offers professionals and talented next-generation filmmakers a unique opportunity to find their way into the international Non-Fiction-Market. Under the aegis of DCM, which once a year launches an appeal for applications, authors and directors develop their projects within the time period of 10 months. www.discovery campus.de/v2/page/masterschool

The European Animation Masterclass (EAM) is an international advanced training offensive for talented next-generation filmmakers as well as experienced professionals. EAM is directed towards graduates of animation training institutions or similar training programs, but also towards young professionals who are already participating within the frame of animation production. The advanced training program offers participants the possibility of accumulating practice-relevant experiences and international contacts via pronounced close and intensively administered collaboration with national and international experts. www.eam masterclass.de

Over the past years, all these initiative have become solid building blocks in the advanced training propositions in Middle Germany, which are being complemented by further proposals. The TP2 Talentpool is a qualifying program for young filmmakers in Middle Germany: Saxony, Saxony-Anhalt and Thuringia. It applies to young screenplay writers, directors, and producers from the areas of fiction and documentary film who have already concluded their first steps on the way to professional filmmaking. TP2 Talentpool gives young talent from the region of Middle Germany a chance to mobilize their skills and to develop themselves further with professional guidance. www.tp2-talentpool.de

Each year, at forward2business within the frame of a Future Congress in Halle/Saale, 200 chosen innovation chiefs , VPs in business development, and marketing leaders of the German market-, media-, and technology-branches submit their most important trends and future expectations for the coming 10 years. They chart an image of Germany in the near future, from the life styles of people, the marketing worlds of companies, and the media worlds. Furthermore, in forward2business-ThinkTank it deals with concrete business models of the future. www.forward2business.com

In addition, Mitteldeutsche Medienförderung annually invites young filmmakers to MDM-Nachwuchsstag KONTAKT, an Information Day in Saxony, Saxony-Anhalt and Thuringia. The focus here is on the Pitching of chosen Next Generation Projects, with the aim of finding partners for these projects. Besides, there are panels on current themes. This year, for the 4th MDM-Next Generation CONTACT, the chosen site was the newly opened KinderMedienZentrum in Erfurt. www.mdm-online.de – www.forward2business.com
